It is deeply unpleasant to discover that one\u2019s identity, one\u2019s name, and the trust built over years of work are being used without authorization to deceive people. In a sense, it represents the exact opposite of the medical profession, which is based on transparency, ethics, and the protection of the patient. That is why I believe it is important to inform, clarify, and provide practical tools so that each person can make sense of the information they find online in an aware and thoughtful way.\u201d   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-d9790e90c946beb53457961a350976a9 wp-block-paragraph\">A practical guide to finding your way through viral content, aggressive marketing, and messages that may interfere with treatment decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">Today, it is easier than ever to come across medical content online that promises quick results, definitive solutions, and \u201csimple\u201d answers to complex problems. The issue is not online searching in itself, but the fact that scientific information, commercial communication, and, at times, outright scams now coexist in the same space. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">Many patients come to their appointment with legitimate questions: \u201cI read that this treatment is definitive,\u201d \u201cI was told that no tests are needed,\u201d \u201cI saw a video explaining that\u2026\u201d. They offer certainty where, in medicine, there are probabilities. They offer shortcuts where, in real life, careful assessment and a proper clinical pathway are needed. And above all, they almost always avoid the central point: <strong>before talking about treatment, you need a well-defined diagnosis<\/strong> and a clear understanding of whether a person is truly a candidate for that treatment.\u201d   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">This is often seen in urology. People talk about the prostate, about techniques \u201cwithout side effects,\u201d guaranteed results, or certain preservation of delicate functions. The problem is not discussing modern options, but doing so without criteria, without limits, and without proper clinical framing.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-1041e812fef33db49978225db07b14b2 wp-block-paragraph\">Ten warning signs that, according to Prof. Bove, should raise concern<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>Guaranteed promises<\/strong><br>If a piece of content says \u201cit always works\u201d or \u201cit works for everyone,\u201d it is already moving outside serious medical practice.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>No diagnosis, only a solution<\/strong><br>When the proposal starts straight away with the treatment, without explaining how the diagnosis is reached, an important step is missing.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>No indications or contraindications<\/strong><br>Every procedure has criteria. If they are not mentioned, that is an important warning sign. <br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>Only testimonials, no data<\/strong><br>Testimonials may be genuine, but they do not replace clinical criteria. If they are the only \u201cproof,\u201d caution is needed. <br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>Urgent and pressuring language<\/strong><br>\u201cDecide now,\u201d \u201cif you wait, it will get worse,\u201d \u201clast chance.\u201d Serious medicine reflects; it does not pressure. <br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>A \u201csecret\u201d or \u201cexclusive\u201d method without verifiable explanations<\/strong><br>If it is not clear what is being done, how it is done, and within what limits, it cannot be properly assessed.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>Attacks on medicine or doctors<\/strong><br>Phrases such as \u201cwhat doctors or big pharma do not want you to know\u201d or \u201cthey will never tell you this\u201d are meant to create distrust, not to inform.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>Confusing general wellbeing with the treatment of a disease<\/strong><br>Talking about lifestyle is very different from talking about the treatment of an illness.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>Price and bonuses at the center, medical content in the background<\/strong><br>If the commercial side dominates, the priority is not clinical.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>No follow-up, no \u201cafterwards\u201d<\/strong><br>A serious medical pathway also explains follow-up, possible effects, and what happens if the expected result does not arrive.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-9f245eef15efbefea60bc42be9e9d837 wp-block-paragraph\">A simple rule: first understand, then choose<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">Reliable content, even if brief, should help patients make sense of the issue. At the very least, it should clarify: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\">what problem is being treated<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\">how it is diagnosed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\">who a certain option is indicated for, and who it is not indicated for<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\">what can realistically be expected<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\">what alternatives exist<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">When these elements are missing, there is no real clinical information, only communication designed to persuade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-f89b3091a6bae84eb1098ca9d3ccac34 wp-block-paragraph\">A practical checklist in 7 questions<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">To find your way more clearly, Professor Pierluigi Bove proposes a practical seven-question checklist that helps distinguish clinical information from misleading claims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\">What is the exact diagnosis we are talking about?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\">Is the person proposing the solution a specialist in that area?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\">What tests are needed to determine whether I am a candidate?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\">Are the limits and risks explained, or not?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\">Are there alternatives, and are they presented correctly?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\">Is there a follow-up plan and a plan for what comes after?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\">If it does not work, what is the next step?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">If a piece of content does not allow us to answer these questions, it is not a solid basis for making a decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-957e0ecc56b2f2d93ac2f54c2491fd6f wp-block-paragraph\">What to do when a piece of content sounds convincing but something feels off<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">\u201cThe most useful choice is usually one,\u201d Professor Bove concludes: \u201cbring that content to your appointment and discuss it. Not to disprove the internet, but to understand whether that message makes sense in your own case. Sometimes the technology is real, but it is not indicated for everyone. Sometimes the promise is built around an ideal case that does not represent the majority. And sometimes, quite simply, there is no clinical basis behind it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">Medicine is not protected by slogans, but by clarity. An informed patient is not a patient who \u201cknows everything,\u201d but a person who has the tools to ask the right questions and to distinguish between serious communication and messages that create unrealistic expectations.
